333 Tower of Evil ( 1972 )

This  cheap  and  cheerful  British  slasher  has  its  drawbacks, the  very  unrealistic  sets  being  the  chief  one  but  it's  pretty  exciting  all  the  same  and  has  the  added  bonus  of  seeing  Robin  Askwith  skewered.

Two  fishermen  visit  a  remote  Scottish  island  with  a  lighthouse  and  find  three  dead  bodies  and  a  naked  demented  girl. A  second  party  set  out  for  the  island  including  four  treasure  hunters  and  a  private  detective working  for  the  surviving  girl's  family  but  their guide  Ham  ( Jack  Watson )  knows  more  than  he's  letting  on.

332 Asylum of Satan (1972 )

This  low-budget  chiller  has  the  odd  good  idea  but  it's  so  poorly  executed  and  badly  acted your  attention  does  wander.

Lucina  Martin  is  a  concert  pianist  who  wakes  up  in  a  strange  asylum  under  the  care  of  a  Dr  Spectre ( Charles  Kissinger ) who  won't  explain  what's  supposed  to  be  the  problem  with  her  and  an  obviously  transvestite  nurse  ( Charles  Fulkerson ). The  ttle  gives  away  what  she's  really  there  for.

Carla  was  born  in  San  Francisco  and  worked  mainly  in  TV  most  notably  in  Falcon  Crest  in  1981. She  retired  in  the  mid-noughties. She  is  now  75.

331 Three on a Meathook ( 1972 )

This  low  budget  offering  was  inspired  by  the  Ed  Gein  murders and  precedes  the  somewhat  similar  Texas  Chainsaw  Massacre. It's  OK  in  parts  if  you  don't  mind  the  amateur-ish  acting   but  does  have  a  long  saggy  bit  in  the  middle.

Debbie  and  three  girlfriends  go  out  boating  but  their  car  breaks  down  and  they  accept  an  offer  of  hospitality  from  Billy  ( James  Pickett  )  against  the  wishes  of  his  Pa  ( Charles  Kissinger ). By  the  morning  all  four  have  been  killed  and  Pa  blames  Billy, Billy  goes  off  to  town  and  picks  up  a  barmaid  Sherry,

Linda  was  a  former  beauty  contestant  and  this  was  her  first  film. Shortly  afterwards she  hooked  up  with  Elvis  Presley. She  gave up  acting  in  the  early  nineties  and  became  a  writer. She  is  now  67.

330 Tales From The Crypt ( 1972 )

A   particularly  creepy  portmanteau  film  from  Amicus  with  Ralph  Richardson  welcoming  some  not  very  enthusiastic  customers  at  the  gates  of  Hell. Each  one  is  reminded  what  brought  them  there. The  stories  are  fairly  preposterous, particularly  the  first  one, but  it's  good  fun.

Joan  Collins  ( as  Joanne  Clayton )

Joan  plays  a  murderess  who  finds  the  boot  on  the  other  foot

Barbara  was  a  Rank  School  graduate  who  made  an  impression  in  British  films  at  the  start  of  the  sixties  but  preferred  stage  work  to  films  and  later  moved  into  TV. She  retired  in  2001 and  moved  to  Spain. She  died  in  2014  aged  84.

Angela  Grant  ( as  Susan  Blake )

Angela  was  a  bit  part  actress  active  until  the  mid-eighties. She  now  works  as  a  cheerleader  for  the  Tory  party.

Susan  Denny  ( as  Mrs  Maitland )

Susan  was  mainly  active  in  the  sixties  as  an  actress  and  host  of  the  TV  series  Glamour. This  was  her  last  acting  role. She  is  now  83.

329 The Possession of Joel Delaney ( 1972 )

This  was  a  big  budget  movie,  part  financed  by  Lew  Grade,  with  a  star  not  normally  associated with  the  genre. It's  perhaps  a  little  over-shadowed  by  the  impact  of  The  Exorcist  the  following  year.  When  it's  good  it's very  good  but  does  drag  a little  with  some  scenes,  notably  the  voodoo  ceremony,  going  on  for  far  too  long.

Norah  Benson   is  a  divorced  socialite  and  mother  of  two  who  keeps  a  close  eye  on  her  younger  brother  Joel  ( Perry  King ). When  he's  arrested  and  sent  to  an  asylum  for  attacking  his  landlord , it's  the  start  of  a  nightmare  journey  into  the  world  of  voodoo  for  Nora  and  her  children.

Shirley  Maclaine  ( as  Norah  Benson )

Shirley  of  course  was  a  Hollywood  A-lister  at  the  time,  after  The  Apartment  and  Two  Mules  for  Sister  Sara. She  finally  won  an  Oscar  for  Terms  of  Endearment  in  1983. Since  then,. she's  been  pretty  much  in  character  roles. She  is  now 83,

Barbara  Trentham ( as  Shelly )

This  was  Barbara's  first  film  after  doing  some  modelling  in  London. She  appeared  in  Rollerball   but  thereafter  her  acting  career  stalled. She  was  married  to  John  Cleese  for  most  of  the  eighties.After they  divorced  in 1990  she  took  up  painting. She  died  of  leukemia  in  2013  aged  68.

Lisa  Kohane  ( as  Carrie )

328 Nothing But The Night ( 1972 )

This  is  an  odd  offering  which  seems  like  a  routine ( though  badly-written )  crime  thriller  until  twenty  minutes  before  the  end  when  it  suddenly  lurches  into  occult  horror  via  sudden  leaps  of  logic  that  are  impossible  for  the  ordinary  viewer  to  follow. Christopher  Lee  and  Peter  Cushing  add  some  gravitas  that  the  film  doesn't  really  deserve. Diana  Dors  plays  a  murderous  tart  who's  very  obviously  a  red  herring.

Colonel  Bingham  ( Lee ) is  investigating  the  suspicious  deaths  of  three  members  of  a  very  wealthy  trust  whose  main  purpose  seems  to  be  running  an  orphanage  on  an  isolated  Scottish  island. After  a  bus  crash  on  a  school  trip , one  of  the  girls,  Mary  comes  into  the  hospital  and  seems  disturbed  concerning  senior  pathologist- why ?- Sir  Mark  Ashley  ( Peter  Cushing ) and  psychiatrist  Peter  Hynes  ( Keith  Barron ) . When  he  is  killed,  apparently  by  Mary's  ex-con mother  Anna  ( Diana  Dors ) , Bingham  and  Asjhley  head  up  to  Scotland  after  her.

This  was   Gwyneth's  first  screen  part  at  the  age  of  12. She  has  made  sporadic  film  appearances  but  works  mainly  on  TV , most  famously  of  course  as  Cassandra  in  Only  Fools  and  Horses. She  is  married  to  fellow actor  Jesse  Birdsall. She  is  now  58.

Georgia  Brown  ( as  Joan  Fraser  )

Georgia  made  her  name  as  a  singer  in  musical  theatre  but  moved  into  straight  acting  in  the  seventies. She  emigrated  to  the  USA  at  the  end  of  the  decade  and  appeared  in  some  US TV  shows. She  died  on  a  visit  to  London  in  1992  aged  58.

Pamela  has  more  cause  than  anyone  else  to  look  back  on  this  fondly  as  she  met  her  husband  on  the  set.

Lee   was  originally  spotted  by  Steve  McQueen  for  the  film  Adam  at  Six  A.M. in  1970  Since  then  she  has  had  a  steady  career  mainly  in  TV  which  is  ongoing.  She  has  been  a  pro-firearms  lobbyist  and  runs  a  beauty  website  geared  towards  older  women. She  is  now  70.

Lisa  James  ( as  Georgette )

Sex :  Georgette  is  pregnant

The  New  Yorker  had  a  brief  career  on  film  and  TV  in  the  seventies. She  disappears  after  1984. She  is  now  75.

Sue  Bernard  ( as  Nancy )
