84 The Ghost of Frankenstein ( 1942 )
The fourth Frankenstein film in the Universal franchise suffers from an over-complicated plot which re-uses ideas from its predecessors without fitting them into an engaging story.
The story carries on almost directly from the events of Son Of Frankenstein . It turns out that the demented Ygor ( Bela Lugosi again ) was not killed as thought and awaits the return of the Monster from its sulphurous pit. That duly occurs though now he is played by Lon Chaney Jr rather than Karloff. Ygor leads the Monster to a not previously mentioned son of Frankenstein called Ludwig ( Cedric Hardwicke ) and demands an improved brain for him.
The film features an early appearance by hard man actor William Smith as a street child.
Evelyn Ankers ( as Elsa Frankenstein )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Evelyn looks like a giant herself next to the relatively short Hardwicke and boasts some impressive shoulder pads here.
Janet Anne Gallow ( as Cloestine )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
This is cute little Janet Anne's only credited role but she had small parts in a few other films in the forties. Now 79, she enjoys her status as a horror icon.
Janet Warren ( as Goose Girl )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Janet never really got out of bit parts , many credited under her real name of Elaine Morey.
She too is still alive at 94.
