217 The Haunted Palace ( 1963 )

This  is  usually  counted  as  one  of  Roger  Corman's  Poe  adaptations  but  in  truth  he  merely  uses  a  Poe  poem  as  an  epigram  and  the  film  is  primarily  based on  an   H P  Lovecraft  story instead. It's  a  reasonable  effort  in  the  usual  Corman  style  but  the  narrative  isn't  always coherent.

Vincent  Price  initially  plays  Joseph  Curwen  a  black  magician  who  is  hypnotising  young  women  to  mate  with  a  fiend  he  keeps  in  the  cellar. The  villagers  of  Arkham  respond  by  burning  him  and  he  curses the  village  before  he  dies. A  century  later  his  descendant  Charles  Ward  ( Price ) innocently  returns  to  the  family  home  but  becomes  inhabited  by  the  spirit  of  his  ancestor  who  is  out  for  revenge.

Debra  Paget  ( as  Anne  Ward )

Sex : Joseph / Charles  attempts  to  rape  her  but  she  fights  him  off

Death :  Survives

This  was  Debra's  last  picture  before  her  marriage  to  an  oil  executive.

Cathie  Merchant  ( as  Hester  Tillinghast )

Sex : Great  cleavage

Death : Of  old  age  but  is  revived  by  Joseph's  spells

Cathie  was  only  17  at  the  time  of  filming. She  was  a  bit  part  actress  who  disappears  in  the  mid-sixties. She  died  in  2013  aged  67.

Barboura  Morris  ( as  Mrs Weedon )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Barboura  plays  a  minor  character  here  who  only  appears  in  a  couple  of  scenes.

Darlene  Lucht  ( as  Miss  Fitch )

Sex :  Raped  by a  fiend  ( offscreen )

Death : Presumably  of  old  age

Darlene  was  a  beauty  contestant  turned  bit  part  actress  who  usually  appeared in  beach  movies. She  disappeared  at  the  end  of  the  sixties  and  died  in  2011  aged  73.
