521 Fair Game (1985)

 This  Australian  cross  between Razorback and I  Spit On  Your Grave  isn't  very  original  but  it  is  an  effective  thriller. Three  kangaroo  hunters - two  of  them absolute  morons- decide  to  terrorise  the  lone  female  manager of  an  animal  sanctuary  in  the  Outback  - but  strangely  stop  short  of  raping  her . Nevertheless she  takes  violent  revenge.

Cassie  was  born  in  Brisbane  and  this  film  was  the  pinnacle  of  her  short  acting  career. She  was  also  a  singer and  married  John  Denver  in  1988. They  divorced  in  1993. Her  last  film was  in  1992  though  she  appears from  time  to  time  on  Australian TV

520 Underworld (1985 )

  Notable  for being  Clive Barker's first  screenplay and  inspiring  the  name of  a  90s  dance  act, this  is  more  of  an  anti-drugs  fable  than  a  horror  film. Dour Larry  Lamb  plays  Roy, a lone  wolf  enforcer investigatig  the  mysterious   kidnapping  of  a  former  girlfriend. This leads  him  to  an  underground community of  mutants  deformed  by  a  dangerous  drug.  The  film  has  a  stronger  cast including Denholm Elliott and  Art  Malik   than  the  material  deserves and  the  mid-eighties  trappings  grate but  it's  OK.

Miranda  Richardson ( as  Oriel)

This  was  Miranda's  second  film  role  having  broken  through  earlier in  the  year  with  Dance With A Stranger.  Miranda  was  born  in  Southport  and  worked  on  the  stage  in  the  north  and  Midlands  before breaking  into  television  and  then  film,  Miranda  turned  down  some  big  roles  that  she  didn't  fancy  which  stopped  her  becoming  a  really  big  star  although  she  received  Oscar  nominations  for  Damage  and  Tom & Viv .She  is  a  very  busy  actress  dividing  her  time  between Film, TV  and  the  stage.

Nicola  Cowper ( as Nicole )

Nicola  was  born  in  London   and  made  her film  debut  as  a  baby  in a film  called A  Girl Like Me in  1969. She  started  appearing  on  TV  in  the  early  eighties and  in  a  few  films  Since  1988,  she  has  appeared  exclusively  on  TV, most  notably  in  the  crime  series  Dangerfield  and  in  a  recurring  role  on  Eastenders. She  was  involved  in  a  long-term  relationship  with  murderer  Tony  McCann  who  died  in  prison  in  2020. She  has  not  been seen  on  screen since 2014.

Irina Brook ( as Bianca )

 Irina  was  born  in  Paris  to  film  and  theatre  director  Peter  Brook  and  has  followed  in  his   footsteps  after  a  brief  acting  career  mainly  on  British  TV. She  was  Iggy Pop's girlfriend  for  a  time. Irina  has  directed  stage  shows  in  both  the  UK  and  France  and  has  been  recognised  with  a  number  of  awards.

519 Lifeforce (1985)

 This  was  a   British  film  with  an  American  budget  and  director (Tobe  Hooper). Taking  large  inspiration  from  Alien  and  Quatermass, it  concerns  the  retrieval of  a  nude  woman (and  two  superfluous  companions) from  a  spaceship  lurking  within  Halley's  Comet. Of  course  they  are  not  quite  what they appear to be. Mostly  remembered  today for  the  physical  charms  of  its  lead  actress, the  film  was a  box  office  failure  and  the  script  is  clunky  with  Steve  Railsback and  Ftank  Finlay  chewing  their  way  through  mountains  of  expository  dialogue  but  as  a  visual  spectacle  it's  actually  quite  impressive.

Matihlda May ( as Space Girl )

Mathilda  is  the  daughter  of  French playwright and  actor  Victor  Haim. This  was  her  second  film  role.  Mathild  has  worked  mainly  in European  cinema  though  she  appeared  in  some  English language  films, most  notably  The  Jackal in 1997. She  wrote  and  directed  the  wordless  play  Open  Space  which  ran  for  two  years  in  Pris  from 2013. Her  careeer is  ongoing.

Nancy Paul ( as Ellen )

Nancy  was  an  American  actress  mainly  active  in  TV. Her   most  notable role  was  her  last  one , appearing  in  every  episode  of  Space  Precinct  as  Sally  Brogan between 1994 and  1995, after  which  she  retired  from  acting.

518 A Nightmare On Elm Street II : Freddy's Revenge ( 1985 )

 This  is  a  decent  sequel  to  A  Nightmare On  Elm  Street  where  Freddy  returns  to  torment a  new  kid Jesse ( Mark  Patton )  living  in  the  same  house. It  is  noted  for  its  homoerotic  subtext..

Kim  Myers ( as Lisa )

Sex : Lisa  starts  making  love with Jesse but  it's  interrupted  by  Freddy

Kim  was  born in  Los  Angeles  and  this  was  her  first  film  role. She  has  had  a  solid  but  unspectacular  career  on  film  and  TV since.

Sydney  was  born  in  Manhattan. This  was  her  film  debut  too and  she  has  had  a  very  similar  career. She  had  a  regular  role  in  Hooperman in  the  late eighties and  does  some  acting  coaching in  Hollywood.

Christie  Clark   ( as Angela )

Christie was born  in  California and  this  was  one of  only  two  films she  made. She  is  better  known  for  a  long-running role  in  The  Days  Of  Our  Lives . She  dropped  out of  acting  in  the  mid nineties  but has returned  to  the  soap  for  guest  appearances. She  is  now  based in  London  and runs  a clothing  company  for  snowboarding.

517 Re- Animator (1985)

 This  horror-comedy  was loosely  based  on  an  HP  Lovecraft serial  story  about  a  young  medical  student  Herbert West  ( Jeffrey  Combs ) who  can  restore  corpses  to  a  violent  semblance   of  life.  West  is  haf-insane  but  it  turns  out  he's  not  the  most  dangerous  person  on  the  campus. The  tongue in cheek humour  leavens  the  over-the-top  violence  and  gore  and  the  special  effects  are  great.

Barbara  Crampton ( as Megan )

Sex : Megan has sex with  her  boyfriend  and  is  later  sexually  assaulted  by a  re-animated  corpse.

Death : Megan  is  throttled  by  a re-animated  corpse

Barbara  was  born  in  New  York  to  a  carnival  family. She  made  her TV  debut  in The  Days  Of  Our  Lives  and  then  her  film  debut  in  Body  Double a  year  later.  Yhis  was  her  third  film  and  the  start  of  her  career  as  a  horror  icon. She  did mainly  TV  work  in  the  nineties  but  in  the  last  two  decades  has   fully  embraced  her  standing  in  horror  and  appeared  in  many  recent  films.

516 The Bride ( 1985 )

 Though  not  entirely  bad , this  film  proved  a  critical  and  commercial  flop  which  damaged  the  careers  of  most  of  those  involved.  It's  a  very  loose  remake of The  Bride  of  Frankenstein  with  faux-feminist overtones  plus  a  hefty  slice  of  Of  Mice  And  Men thrown  in  as  a  sub-plot. The  fatal flaws  are  the  casting  and  the  sequencing with  the  sub-plot  involving  Clancy  Brown  and  David  Rapaport  so  much  more  absorbing  than  the  main  story  of  Frankenstein  and  his  creation  that  the  scenes involving  the latter  seem  like  distracting  ad  breaks. The  terrible acting  of  Sting  and  his  co-star certainly  doesn't  help. 

Jennifer  Beals ( as  Eva )

Sex : Eva  is twice  interrupted while about  to have  sex. Beals  used  a  body  double  for  a  scene  where  Eva  walks through  the  castle  naked.

This  was  Jennifer's  second  film  role  following  the  success  of  Flashdance  and  she  was  still  a  student at  Yale  when  it  was  shot. Her  inexperience is  horribly  exposed  and  the  film ended  her hopes  of  leading  lady  status. Nevertheless  she  has  continued  working  in  film  and  TV  to  the  present  day  with  recognition  for  her  work  in  The  L Word.
