306 Let's Scare Jessica To Death ( 1971 )
This psychological chiller has its fans though I don't like it much. It's a bit slow in pace and it's hard to care for any of the characters especially the men.
Jessica is released from a mental institution and retreats to a rundown farm with musician husband Duncan ( Barton Heyman ) and bearded buddy Woody ( Kevin O Connor ). There they find an unexpected tenant in Emily who Woody fancies so she stays. Odd things start happening and a trip to the local antique dealer reveals that Emily resembles a previous occupant who drowned 100 years ago.
Zohra Lampert ( as Jessica )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Zohra was from Chicago and was of Russian Jewish extraction. She made a good impression in Splendor in the Grass in 1961 but somehow failed to realise her potential. After this film she worked mainly in TV . She disappeared at the end of the nineties but unexpectedly returned to film in 2009 and has been active since. She is now 80.
Mariclare Costello ( as Emily/Abigail )
Sex : Emily seduces Duncan ( largely offscreen )
Death : Survives as a vampire
Mariclare was also more of a TV actress with a regular role in The Waltons. She later became an acting professor. She is now 81.
Gretchen Corbett ( as the Girl )
Sex : No
Death : Killed offscreen, presumably by Emily
Gretchen too worked mainly in TV most notably in The Rockford Files. She later set up a theatre company for disadvantaged children and is still a working actress.
305 The Incredible Two-Headed Transplant ( 1971 )
This is a silly but reasonably entertaining mad scientist romp that benefits considerably from having Bruce Dern in the title role though he said he never got paid.
Dern is scientist Roger Girard conducting experiments on transplanting heads of animals aided by Max ( Berry Kroeger ) a decrepit surgeon who fancies having a younger body once more. When they mortally wound the escaped murderer Cass ( Albert Cole ) in rescuing Roger's wife from him they decide to experiment by grafting his head on to strong-bodied simpleton Danny ( John Bloom ). America's squarest music fan, Casey Kasem, plays Ken, the film's voice of reason.
Pat Priest ( as Linda Girard )
Sex : Cass prepares to rape Linda but she fights him off until being rescued.
Death : Survives
Pat was the daughter of Ivy Priest, US Treasurer in the Eisenhower regime. She made her name on TV in The Munsters playing Marilyn, her film career was unimpressive. She retired in the seventies and has since worked in real estate and antiques. In recent years she has suffered from lymphoma. She is now 81.
Darlene Duralia ( as Miss Priest )
Sex : Cass prepares to rape her but is interrupted by the police
Death : Survives
Darlene was an obscure TV actress active in the seventies. She is now 69.
Mary Ellen Clawsen ( as Motorcyclist )
Sex : No
Death: Battered to death by Danny/Cass
Mary was actually the production secretary on the film and this is her only acting appearance.
Janice P Gelman ( as Teenage victim )
Sex : Snogging her boyfriend when attacked
Death : Throttled by Danny/ Cass
This was Janice's only film appearance.
Erica Sorensen ( as Teenager )
Sex : Snogging her boyfriend
Death : Survives
This was Eva's only film appearance.

304 I, Monster ( 1971 )
Despite changing the main protagonists' names, this Amicus version of Jekyll and Hyde is much more faithful to the novel and previous adaptations than Hammer's contemporary offering and suffered for it. It's well acted, especially by Lee in the dual role of Marlowe / Blake, but a rather sexless affair with too many scenes of middle aged men coming and going in the foggy London streets to be exciting.
Susan Jameson ( as Diane )
Sex : Diane offers her body to Dr Marlowe after taking his potion
Death : Survives
Susan started acting in the late fifties and has appeared mainly in TV roles. She is best known as Mrs James Bolam . They met on the set of The Likely Lads and they have appeared in several series together from When The Boat Comes In to New Tricks and Grandpa in My Pocket. She is now 76.
Marjie Lawrence ( as Annie )
Sex : Great cleavage
Death : Clubbed to death by Blake
Marjie plays more or less the same part in this one.

303 The House That Dripped Blood ( 1971 )
This Amicus compendium has such a strong cast it should be top notch but instead it's fairly routine with only the final segment The Cloak standing out for its post-modernist pops at vampire films , including a joke at the expense of Christopher Lee who's in one of the earlier segments as a man tormented by his daughter.
Joanna Dunham ( as Alice Hillyer )
Sex : No
Death : Stabbed by her erstwhile lover Richard
Joanna was a regular face on TV more than a film actress. Her career had run its course by the end of the nineties and she died in 2014 aged 78.
Nyree Dawn Porter ( as Ann Norton )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Nyree was an actress from New Zealand originally brought to England by Rank. She made her name in the late sixties in The Forsyte Saga and then The Protectors in the early seventies. She semi-retired in the late eighties and died of leukaemia in 2001 aged 65.
Chloe Franks ( as Jane Reid )
Sex : n/a
Death : Survives
Chloe appeared in a number of child roles in the seventies but didn't really transfer to adult roles. In the early nineties, she was casting director on the ill-fated soap Eldorado. Since being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, she has become a leading disability campaigner. She is now 54.
Ingrid Pitt ( as Carla Lynde )
Sex : Huge cleavage
Death : Survives
Ingrid sends herself up in this one as Jon Pertwee's exotic co-star.

302 Hands of the Ripper ( 1971 )
This was Hammer's second film to reference Jack the Ripper that year.
Eric Porter plays Dr Pritchard a psychiatrist who takes a young woman into his home despite knowing she is prone to murderous fits of violence. His motivations are never very clear and the whole film is sloppily plotted although gory enough to satisfy undemanding horror fans.
Angharad Rees ( as Anna )
Sex : Anna is pimped to a seedy politician by her guardian
Death : Falls to her death from a high staircase
Angharad was born to Welsh parents in Middlesex and began her acting career in the late sixties. After this and an appearance in Under Milk Wood she made her name on TV as Demelza in Poldark. After the death of her son in 1999 she gave up acting and became a jewellery designer. She died of cancer in 2012 aged 68.
Jane Merrow ( as Laura )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
You could say that Laura's blindness has no plot function but that's true of the entire character.
Lynda Baron ( as Long Liz )
Sex : Liz is a prostitute
Death : Stabbed in the eye with a hat pin by Anna
Lynda's career has been going for almost 60 years now. She is a well-loved character actress best known as Nurse Gladys in Open All Hours. She is now 78.

301 Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde ( 1971 )
This is one of the best-regarded of Hammer's seventies output. Roy Ward Baker puts together three horror stories in one - Dr Jekyll, Jack the Ripper and Burke and Hare - with gay abandon and plenty of wit.
Jekyll ( Ralph Bates ) is a driven young doctor goaded by his rakish senior colleague Robertson ( Gerald Sim ) into dangerous experiments and criminality to find the elixir of life. As a result, he periodically turns into a beautiful woman Sister Hyde giving rise to a bizarre love triangle where he is fancied by young virgin Susan and his alter ego is desired by her brother Howard ( Lewis Fiander ). In the meantime the bodies of young women pile up
Martine Beswick ( as Sister Hyde )
Sex : Sister Hyde fondles her breasts after the first transformation
Death : Falls from a roof after transforming at the wrong time.
It's often assumed Martine got the role because of her marked resemblance to Bates but she was not the first choice, Caroline Munroe turning it down because of the nudity involved. The Jamaican-born model got her break in two early Bond films. From the mid-seventies she worked mainly on TV in America and retired in the mid-nineties. She is now 76.
Susan Brodrick ( as Susan Spencer )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Susan has a much bigger role in this one as the innocent virgin.
Irene Bradshaw ( as Yvonne )
Sex : Yvonne is a prostitute
Death : Survives
Irene was from Derbyshire and worked mainly in TV up to the mid-eighties. She began a comeback in 2008 and has appeared in a number of shorts. She is now 77.
Virginia Weatherell ( as Betsy )
Sex : Betsy strips for sex with Jekyll
Death : Stabbed by Jekyll
This was a fairly minor role for Virginia
Anna Brett ( as Julie )

Anna was a bit part actress. This was her only credited film role.
Rosemary Lord ( as Marie )

300 The Devil's Widow ( 1971 )
This was the only film directed by actor Roddy McDowall and accounts for his absence from the second film in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Unfortunately it's not very good, over-long and far too slow to get going ; you don't even know it's a horror film for the first hour. Unredeemed British fol rockers Pentangle provide the soundtrack giving it some period charm but not enough to make up for its other deficiencies.
Ava Gardener plays Michaela Cazaret , a wealthy widow with a sinister major-domo Ellroy ( Richard Wattis ) who maintains a household of trendy sycophants including gigolo Tom Lynn ( Ian MacShane ). An innocent young vicar's daughter, Janet, stumbles into this world and catches Tom's eye but Michaela isn't going to let go of him that easily.
Stephanie Beacham ( as Janet Ainsley )
Sex : Janet is impregnated by Tom
Death : Survives
Stephanie was a former model who started getting film roles at the start of the seventies. Although she has plenty of film and stage credits she's most famous for her TV roles as Rose in Tenko, the titular role in Connie and Sable in The Colbys . In 2009 she had a run in Coronation Street and despite turning 70 her career shows no sign of winding down.
Sinead Cusack ( as Rose )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Sinead is the daughter of actor Cyril Cusack who stars as the vicar in the film. She came to prominence in the film Hoffman with Peter Sellers in 1970. She is perhaps best known as Mrs Jeremy Irons but has enjoyed a steady acting career in her own right. She is now 69.
Joanna Lumley ( as Georgia )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Jenny Hanley ( as Caroline )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Jenny is utterly wasted here; it's hard to guess why she agreed to do the film.
Madeline Smith ( as Sue )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Madeline has a bit more to do than some of the other girls but it's still not a great role for her.
Pamela Fairbrother ( as Vanna )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Pamela is similarly underemployed here.
Virginia Tingwell ( as Lottie )
Sex : n/a
Death : Survives
This is Virginia's only film role.
