301 Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde ( 1971 )

This  is  one  of  the  best-regarded  of  Hammer's  seventies  output. Roy  Ward  Baker  puts  together  three  horror  stories  in  one  - Dr  Jekyll, Jack  the  Ripper  and  Burke  and  Hare - with  gay  abandon  and  plenty  of  wit.

Jekyll  ( Ralph  Bates )  is  a  driven  young  doctor  goaded  by  his  rakish  senior  colleague  Robertson  ( Gerald  Sim )  into  dangerous  experiments  and  criminality  to  find  the  elixir  of  life.  As  a  result,  he  periodically  turns  into  a  beautiful  woman Sister  Hyde  giving  rise  to  a  bizarre  love  triangle  where  he  is  fancied  by  young  virgin  Susan  and   his  alter  ego  is  desired  by  her  brother  Howard  ( Lewis  Fiander ). In  the  meantime  the  bodies  of  young  women  pile  up

Martine  Beswick ( as  Sister  Hyde )

It's  often  assumed  Martine  got  the  role  because  of  her  marked  resemblance  to  Bates  but  she  was  not  the  first  choice, Caroline  Munroe  turning  it  down  because  of  the  nudity  involved. The  Jamaican-born  model  got  her  break  in  two  early  Bond  films. From  the  mid-seventies  she  worked  mainly  on  TV  in  America  and  retired  in  the  mid-nineties. She  is  now  76.

Irene  Bradshaw  ( as  Yvonne )

Irene  was  from  Derbyshire  and  worked  mainly  in  TV  up  to  the  mid-eighties. She  began  a  comeback  in  2008  and  has  appeared  in  a  number  of  shorts. She  is  now 77.

Virginia  Weatherell  ( as  Betsy )

Sex : Betsy  strips  for  sex  with  Jekyll

Death : Stabbed  by  Jekyll

This  was  a fairly  minor  role  for  Virginia

Anna  Brett  ( as  Julie )

Sex :  Julie  is  a  prostitute

Death : Stabbed  to  death  by  Sister  Hyde

Anna  was  a  bit  part  actress. This  was  her  only  credited film  role.

Rosemary  Lord  ( as  Marie )

Sex : Marie  is  a  prostitute

Rosemary  was  a  bit  part  actress  from  Taunton  who  kept  popping  up  occasionally  right  up  to  1999. She  is  now  70.

Jeannette  Wild  ( as  Jill )

Death : Throttled  by  Burke  and  Hare

Jeanette  was  a  bit  part  actress  active  in  the  late  sixties  and  seventies. She  had  a  short  run  in  Coronation  Street  in  1977.
