This was a big budget movie, part financed by Lew Grade, with a star not normally associated with the genre. It's perhaps a little over-shadowed by the impact of The Exorcist the following year. When it's good it's very good but does drag a little with some scenes, notably the voodoo ceremony, going on for far too long.
Norah Benson is a divorced socialite and mother of two who keeps a close eye on her younger brother Joel ( Perry King ). When he's arrested and sent to an asylum for attacking his landlord , it's the start of a nightmare journey into the world of voodoo for Nora and her children.

328 Nothing But The Night ( 1972 )
This is an odd offering which seems like a routine ( though badly-written ) crime thriller until twenty minutes before the end when it suddenly lurches into occult horror via sudden leaps of logic that are impossible for the ordinary viewer to follow. Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing add some gravitas that the film doesn't really deserve. Diana Dors plays a murderous tart who's very obviously a red herring.
Colonel Bingham ( Lee ) is investigating the suspicious deaths of three members of a very wealthy trust whose main purpose seems to be running an orphanage on an isolated Scottish island. After a bus crash on a school trip , one of the girls, Mary comes into the hospital and seems disturbed concerning senior pathologist- why ?- Sir Mark Ashley ( Peter Cushing ) and psychiatrist Peter Hynes ( Keith Barron ) . When he is killed, apparently by Mary's ex-con mother Anna ( Diana Dors ) , Bingham and Asjhley head up to Scotland after her.
Gwyneth Strong ( as Mary )

326 Last House On The Left ( 1972 )
This was Wes Craven's controversial debut film and the best part of 50 years later it's still difficult to watch. Various versions are knocking around due to cuts and completely intact versions are rare. The horrific scenes of rape and torture are interspersed with campy scenes involving one of the victims' parents and two inept cops which make them seem all the worse.
Mari meets her friend Phyllis to go to a concert but they wish to score dope first and follow a young man Junior ( Mark Sheffler ) to his flat where three escaped psychopaths, Krug, Weasel and Sadie kidnap them. They are taken to a wood a stones throw from Mari's home where they are horrifically abused and murdered. The quartet then move into the family home but their secrets are uncovered leading to a bloody revenge.
Sandra Peabody ( as Mari )
Sex : Mari is forced into lesbian sex with Phyllis, molested by Sadie then raped by Krug
Death : Mari is shot by Krug
Sandra went on to do a few other horror / exploitation pictures but quit acting in 1975 and began working on children's television as a producer. She has latterly worked as an acting coach. She is now 70.
Linda Grantham ( as Phyllis )
Sex : Phyllis is raped in the flat and then forced to urinate in her pants before lesbian sex with Mari in the woods
Death : Phyllis is repeatedly stabbed by Weasel then Sadie pulls her entrails out.
Though she appears to be the older of the two girls, Lucy was actually three years younger than Sandra. This was Lucy's only real film though she also appeared in the porn documentary Loops. She is now 66.
Jeramie Rain ( as Sadie )
Sex : Sadie molests both girls
Death : Mari's mother slits her throat
Jeramie too had a brief acting career but in her case it was curtailed by serious illness ( systemic lupus ) and then marriage to Richard Dreyfus. She has since worked as a producer and scripwriter on daytime TV as well as charity work for children diagnosed with serious illnesses.

325 The Flesh and Blood Show ( 1972 )
Well there's certainly no shortage of flesh on show here ( including our first glimpse of a male todger ) although I suspect there was a little cheating by one party.
Mike Archer ( Ray Brooks ) directs a small troop of actors brought together by a mysterious agent to improvise a play in a semi-derelict theatre at the end of a pier. Wouldn't you know it someone starts murdering them. The culprit is soon obvious but a regular display of female flesh keeps you awake.
Jenny Hanley ( as Julia Dawson )
Sex : Julia strips off for bed ( although it's a body double once her bra comes off )
Death : Survives
Jenny clashed with director Peter Walker and got Equity to remove part of the nude footage as the substitute had brown pubic hair.
Luan Peters ( as Carol )
Sex : Carol answers the door nude in the opening scene and later has sex with one of the other actors
Death : Fatally struck by Julia
Luan got third billing in this film, perhaps as a reward for the nude scene.
Candace Glendinning ( as Sarah )
Sex : Sarah is surprised while topless
Death : Stabbed in the back by the killer
Candace was from Islington and worked throughout the seventies disappearing into private life after 1982. Ironically, one of her last TV roles was in the Thora Hird comedy
series Flesh and Blood. She is now 64.

Death : Angela is guillotined by the killer.
Penny was active in the seventies mainly in soft porn films, She also had a spell as a TV hostess on Whose Baby ?
Jane Cardew ( as Lady Pamela )
Sex : Pamela is having an affair with a fellow actor and starts having sex in front of her young daughter
Death : Roped to her lover and left to starve by her husband
Jane had a brief career, again mainly in soft porn, in the early seventies.

324 The Fiend ( 1972 )
This early serial killer film stars Tony Beckley as Kenny an unstable man driven to murderous excess by the religious fundamentalism of his mother Birdie ( Ann Todd ) and her unrelenting minister ( a very hammy Patrick Magee ). A young nurse and her journalist sister try to break the hold of the cult.
It's interesting in parts but the narrative isn't strong enough to really hold your attention.
Madeleine Hinde ( as Brigitte )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Madeleine is the heroine in this film as the concerned nurse.
Suzanna Leigh ( as Patricia )
Sex : Patricia finds herself the object of Birdie's lesbian affections when she is baptised
Death : Survives
This was one of Suzanna's last films.
Jeanette Wild ( as Prostitute )
Sex : She services a client just before her death
Death : Strangled by Kenny
This was another whore role for Jeanette

This was Diana's only film role though she has TV credits between 1964 and 1973

Hani Borelle ( as riverside girl )
Sex : She is stripped after death
Death : Strangled by Kenny
Hani was a bit part actress active in the early seventies.
323 Fear in the Night ( 1972 )
This Hammer offering is a psychological thriller low on sex and gore and high on convoluted plot but an excellent cast keep it going.
Peggy a young woman with a psychiatric past accompanies her new husband Robert ( Ralph Bates ) to his new job at a boarding school after an unnerving attack by a prowler with a prosthetic arm. She discovers that his head ( Peter Cushing ) has one and also a younger unfriendly wife Molly. The school is also eerily clean and tidy. All this does nothing to help her mental state.
Judy Geeson ( as Peggy )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
This one is probably the best film role of Judy's career.
Joan Collins ( as Molly )
Sex : Molly is having an affair with Robert
Death : Molly is shot by Robert in mistake for Michael
The former fifties starlet was languishing in horror films at this point before The Stud revitalised her career. She is now 84.
322 Dracula AD 1972
Hammer brings the Dracula franchise into the present day with Christopher Lees vampire rising again thanks to the machinations of young disciple Johnny Alucard ( Christopher Neame ) and looking for vengeance against the modern-day descendants of old adversary Van Helsing ( Peter Cushing ). The swinging London of 1972 now looks every bit as quaint as the story's Victorian origins and the film is a bit tame compared to some of the other Hammer offerings of the time.
Stephanie Beacham ( as Jessica Van Helsing )
Sex : Awesome cleavage
Death : Survives
Perhaps it's due to recently seeing her in The Nightcomers but Stephanie seems a little old for the role of virginal Jessica,
Marsha Hunt ( as Gaynor )
Sex : Gaynor has a snog with Johnny
Death : Drained of blood by Dracula
Marsha is best known as the singer from Philadelphia who married Soft Machine's Mike Ratledge to stay in the country, made her name in Hair and then had a relationship with Mick Jagger. Caroline Munro ( as Laura )
Sex : No
Death : Drained of blood by Dracula
Caroline was a former model who signed a contract with Hammer but made few films with them because she refused to do nudity, Nonetheless her c.v is mainly made up of horror films. She was a hostess on 3-2-1 in the eighties. Her acting career seemed to have petered out in the nineties but she made a comeback in 2003 and is still working. She is now 68.
Janet Key ( as Anna )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Janet has a more substantial role in this one.

321 Dr Phibes Rises Again ( 1972 )
A so-so sequel to the first film which relies on Phibes ( Vincent Price once more ) talking to himself to explain the plot as he goes along. Phibes is now seeking eternal life for himself and wife Victoria but in this film has a rival in Biederbecke ( Robert Quarry) another who is keeping himself alive artificially. This gives a flimsy excuse for another set of grisly murders before the final confrontation. Peter Jeffrey and John Cater teprise their roles for comic relief.
Fiona Lewis ( as Diana )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Fiona hails from Essex and has been acting since the mid-sixties. Though still acting she has branched into writing with two published novels. She is now 71.
Valli Kemp ( as Vulnavia )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Valli replaced Virginia North from the first film who was now pregnant. Valli was born in Kenya but the family later moved to Australia where she worked as a model. When her acting career slumped she became a fashion designer, artist and art teacher in Australia. She is now 67.
320 Demons of the Mind ( 1972 )
This little-known Hammer offering stars Robert Hardy as a crazed baron who keeps his son Emil ( Shane Briant ) and daughter Elisabeth locked away from each other for fear they will go mad or have sex with each other or something. Patrick Magee plays a discredited doctor who might have a cure. Former Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones is young physician Richter trying to make sense of it all. Narrative coherence isn't the film's strong point but it's good on the eye.
Gillian Hills ( as Elisabeth )
Sex : Elisabeth has sex with Richter
Death : Survives
Gillian was brought up in Paris and appeared in a number of French TV series in the sixties with occasional forays into British films such as Beat Girl and Blow-Up. This was one of her last films before she moved to the US with rock manager husband Stewart Young and worked as a book illustrator. She is now 73.
