This was Wes Craven's controversial debut film and the best part of 50 years later it's still difficult to watch. Various versions are knocking around due to cuts and completely intact versions are rare. The horrific scenes of rape and torture are interspersed with campy scenes involving one of the victims' parents and two inept cops which make them seem all the worse.
Mari meets her friend Phyllis to go to a concert but they wish to score dope first and follow a young man Junior ( Mark Sheffler ) to his flat where three escaped psychopaths, Krug, Weasel and Sadie kidnap them. They are taken to a wood a stones throw from Mari's home where they are horrifically abused and murdered. The quartet then move into the family home but their secrets are uncovered leading to a bloody revenge.
Sandra Peabody ( as Mari )
Sex : Mari is forced into lesbian sex with Phyllis, molested by Sadie then raped by Krug
Death : Mari is shot by Krug
Sandra went on to do a few other horror / exploitation pictures but quit acting in 1975 and began working on children's television as a producer. She has latterly worked as an acting coach. She is now 70.
Linda Grantham ( as Phyllis )
Sex : Phyllis is raped in the flat and then forced to urinate in her pants before lesbian sex with Mari in the woods
Death : Phyllis is repeatedly stabbed by Weasel then Sadie pulls her entrails out.
Though she appears to be the older of the two girls, Lucy was actually three years younger than Sandra. This was Lucy's only real film though she also appeared in the porn documentary Loops. She is now 66.
Jeramie Rain ( as Sadie )
Sex : Sadie molests both girls
Death : Mari's mother slits her throat
Jeramie too had a brief acting career but in her case it was curtailed by serious illness ( systemic lupus ) and then marriage to Richard Dreyfus. She has since worked as a producer and scripwriter on daytime TV as well as charity work for children diagnosed with serious illnesses.
