295 Blood From The Mummy's Tomb ( 1971 )

Another  mummy-based  offering  from  Hammer  except  there's  no real  mummy  as  the  body  of  evil  queen  Tera  is  perfectly  preserved  apart  from  a  missing  hand. This  is  a  very  average  offering  with  the  characters  having  to  explain  the  plot  as  they  go  along.

Margaret  Fuchs   is  having  nightmares  connected  with  her  father's (  Andrew  Keir  replacing  Peter  Cushing  who  had  to  drop  out )  discovery   of  an  Egyptian  queen  on  the  day  she  was  born. Now  her  appearance  strikes  terror  in  the  hearts  of  the  expedition's  members  apart  from  the  evil  Corbett  ( James  Villiers )  who  wants  her  to  fulfil  her  destiny.

Valerie  Leon ( as  Margaret  Fuchs )

Sex : Margaret  sleeps  with  her  boyfriend  Todd

Death :  Survives  ( but  possibly  as  Tera )

Big-breasted  Valerie  is  remembered  for  a  long  string  of  glamorous  bit  parts  in  the  late  sixties  and  seventies   particularly  in  the  Carry  On  series  and  a  couple  of  Bond  films. In  the  last  three  decades  her  appearances  have  been  more  sporadic  but  she's  still  active. She  is  now  73.

Tamara  Ustinov  ( as  Veronica )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Another  nothing  part  for  Tamara  here.

Penelope  Holt  ( as  Nurse )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  is  Penelope's  only  screen  role. I'm  guessing  she  was  the  daughter  of  director  Seth  Holt  who  died  on  set.

294 The Abominable Dr Phibes ( 1971 )

This  tongue-in-cheek  campy  horror  with  Vincent  Price  as  a  demented  organist  wiping  out  the  team  of  surgeons  who  let  his  wife  die  , in  accordance  with  the  10  plagues  of  Egypt  has  become  a   cult  favourite  for  its  stylised  art  deco  look. It's  good  fun  if  you  can  take  Price  at  his   best/worst . Peter  Jeffrey's  good  as  the  detective  on  his  case.

Virginia  North  ( as  Vulnavia )

Sex :  No

Death : Caught  in  an  acid  shower

Virginia  was  the  daughter  of  a  US  army  officer,  who  eventually  settled  in  London  and  became  a  top  model. She  had  a  very  brief  acting  career, this  being  her  last  film. She  married  the  industrialist  Gordon  White  and  became  Lady  White  in  1979  when  he  was knighted. She  died  of  cancer  in  2004  aged  58.

Susan  Travers  ( as  Nurse  Allen )

Sex : No

Death : Her  head  is  devoured  by  locusts

This  was  Susan's  last  horror  picture  although  she  had  an  uncredited  role  as  a  victim  in  Frenzy.

293 Crescendo ( 1970 )

This  lesser-known  Hammer  offering  has  an  international  flavour  with  Stefanie  Powers  as  a  music  student  staying  with  a  composer's  widow  Danielle    ( Margaretta  Scott )   in  her  French  mansion  to  write  her  thesis.  Danielle  has  a  crippled  drug-addicted  son  George  ( James  Olsson )  and  an  agenda  of  her  own. It's  not  very  scary  and  a  lirtle  predictable  but  always  watchable.

Stefanie  Powers  ( as  Susan  Roberts  )

Sex :  Susan  tries  to  seduce  George  not  realising  he  is  impotent

Death : Survives

Stefanie  looks  great  in  a  couple  of  bikinis  but  her  acting  is  not  exactly  top  notch  here.

Jane  Lapotaire  ( as  Lillianne )

Sex :  Lillianne  strips  down  and  sexually  teases  George

Death : Stabbed  by  George's  mad  twin  Jacques  while  swimming  nude  in  the  pool

Though  widely  believed  to  be  French,  Jane  is  actually  from  Ipswich  and  her  surname  comes  from  a  Quebecois  stepfather.  This  was  her  first  film  and  she  is  better  known  for  her  TV  and  stage  work. She  got  a  Tony  in  1981  for  playing  Edith  Piaf  on  Broadway. She  has  written  a  number  of  autobiographical  works  and  is  still  working  despite  suffering  a  severe  stroke in  2000. She  is  now  72.

Kirsten  Lindholm  ( as  Catherine  )

Sex :  Catherine  has  an  affair  with  George

Death  : Shot  by  Jacques

Kirsten  is  made  up  to  look  like  Stefanie  Powers  for  plot  purposes   leading  many  to  wrongly  believe  it's  Powers  in  the  topless  scene.

292 The Vampire Lovers ( 1970 )

After  dipping  a  tentative  toe  in  the  water  for  a  number  of  years  , Hammer  finally  embraced  full-on  sex  and  nudity  with  this  one.

In  a  Styrian  village  seemingly  exclusively  populated  by  lesbian  women  who  find  Ingrid  Pitt   irresistible,  the  surviving  members  of   an  evil  family  of  vampires  carry  out  a  reign  of  terror. Chief  among  them  is  Carmilla  who  is  placed  in  two  families  headed  by  Peter  Cushing  and  George  Cole  and  lures  their  women  to  their  doom  with  the  promise  of  lesbian  sex.  The  film  isn't  so  great  on  story - the  presence  of  a  dark-robed  horseman- goes  unexplained  - but  that's  not  really  the  point  in  this  one.

Ingrid  Pitt  ( as  Carmilla )

Sex :  Carmilla  snares  nearly  all  her  victims  with  the  promise  of  lesbian  sex  but  it's  not  clear   if  she  delivers  before  taking  a  bite  out  of  their  breast

Death  :  Staked  and  then  decapitated  by  the  General  ( Cushing )

Ingrid  was  born  in  Warsaw  and  survived  internment  at  Stutthof  Concentration  Camp. She  married  an  American  GI  called  Pitt  and  found  her  way  to  Hollywood, initially  working  as  an  actress.  Her  first  decent  part  was  as  a  British  spy  in  Where  Eagles  Dare   but  this  is  the  film  that  made  her  name. In  later  years  she  took  up  writing  as  well  as  continuing  to  act.  She  died  of  congestive  heart  failure  in  2010  aged  73.

Madeline   Smith  ( as  Emma )

Sex : Emma  is stripped  for  sex  with  Carmilla  then  bitten  on  the  left  breast

Death : Survives

Emma's  doe-eyed  innocence  was  apparently  for  real  as  Madeline  has  said  she  was  a  virgin  at  the  time  of  filming.

Kate  O' Mara  (as  Madamoiselle  Perradot )

Sex :  She  goes  to  Carmilla's  room  for  sex

Death :  Carmilla  gives  her  a  fatal  bite

Unlike  most  of  her  co-stars  Kate  wasn't  required  to  disrobe.

Pippa  Steel  ( as  Laura )

Sex :  Laura's  blouse  is  opened  by  the  doctor  after  her  death

Death :  From  blood  loss  after  repeated  attacks  by  Carmilla

Pippa  was  born  in  Flensburg  and  was  active  from  the  late  sixties. She  retired  in  1978  to  run  a  hotel  and  catering  business  with  her  husband  but  appeared  sporadically  on  TV  in  the  eighties. She  died  of  cancer  in  1992  aged  44.

Dawn  Addams  ( as  the  Countess )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Dawn's  part  in  the  film  is  somewhat  ambiguous - is  she  a  vampire  herself  or  just  a  mortal  helper  ?

Kirsten  Lindholm ( as  Vampire  Woman )

Sex : No

Death : Decapitated  by  Baron  Hartog

Kirsten  was  a  Danish  model  who  had  a  brief  film  career  at  the  end  of  the  sixties. She  met  a  Sikh  convert  at  a  yoga  class   and  has  worked  as  an  instructor  and  healer  ever  since. The  couple  now  live  in  New  Zealand. She  is  now  74.

Janet  Key  ( as  Gretchen  )

Sex :  No

Death   : Survives

Janet   had  a  consistent  career  on  TV  from  the  late  sixties  until  her  death  in  1992  aged  47  with  regular  roles  in  Flesh  and  Blood  and  Running  Wild.

Joanne  Shelley  ( as  Woodman's  daughter )

Sex :  She  welcomes  Carmilla's  attentions  as  a  lover

Death : Carmilla  tears  her  throat  out

Joanne  was  active  in  the  early  seventies  with  a  regular  role  in  The  Silver  Sword  but  this  was  her  only  film  appearance.

291 Scars of Dracula ( 1970 )

Hammer's  second  Dracula  film  of  the  year  is  much  better  and  re-visits  some  of  the  themes  of  the  first  film  with  Lee  once  again  acting  as  an  urbane  host  before  getting  down  to  business.  The  storyline  is  coherent  and  the  amount  of  blood  and  violence  reflects  the  time. However,   the  plastic  bats  belong  to  the  Bela  Lugosi  era.

Paul Carlson  ( Christopher  Matthews ) a  young  lothario  is  on  the  run  from  the  burgomaster  after  a  false  accusation  of  rape. He  ends  up  at  Dracula's  castle  and  does  not  return. His  more  sensible  brother  Simon  ( Dennis  Waterman )  and  fiance  Sarah  investgate  what  has  happened  to  him.

Jenny  Hanley  ( as  Sarah )

Sex : Great  cleavage

Death : Survives

Jenny  was  the  daughter  of  actress  Dinah  Sheridan. This  was  her  first  substantial  film  role. Although  she  made  other  films  in  the  seventies  she's  much  better  known  for  her  TV  work  both  as  an  actress  with  a  regular  role  in  Softly  Softly  Task  Force  and  as  a  presenter  on  Magpie  and  Saturday  Night  at  the  Mill. She's  rarely  been  on   screen  in  the  last  couple  of 0 decades  but  has  worked  in  local  radio. She  is  now  70.

Anouska  Hempel  ( as  Tania  )

Sex :  Tania  has  sex  with  Paul

Death :  Stabbed  repeatedly  by  Dracula  ( although  as  she's  already  a  vampire, this  shouldn't  kill  her )

Anouska  was  originally  Ann  Geissler   from  New  Zealand. She  was  popular  in  film  and  TV  throughout  the  seventies. She  was  briefly  married  to  theatre  producer  Bill  Kenwright. In  the  eighties  she  gradually  withdrew  from  acting  and  launched  various  business  ventures  initially  financed  by  her  husband. She  is  now  a  successful  hotelier  and  designer. She  is  now  75.

Wendy  Hamilton  ( as  Julie )

Sex : No

Death : From  blood  loss  after  a  bite  from  Dracula

This  was  the  second  of  only  two  films  featuring  Wendy. She  went  on  to  a  few  TV  credits  including  Posy  in  Ace  of  Wands  before  marrying  singer  Michael  Des  Barres  in  1973. Although  their  marriage  was  brief,  she  never  resumed  her  acting  career.

Delia  Lindsay  ( as  Alice )

Sex : Alice  sleeps  with  Paul  then  accuses  him  of  rape  when  her  father  catches  them. she  is  seen  nude  from  behind

Death : Survives

This  was  Delia's  first  film. In  1978  she  married  actor   Jeremy  Sinden  and  thereafter  balnced  her  career  with  raising  a  family. Since  2002  her  appearances  have  been  sporadic.

290 Taste The Blood of Dracula ( 1970 )

Hammer  ended  up  making  two  Dracula  films  in  1970  because  Lee  wasn't  supposed  to  be in  this  one, Ralph  Bates  doing  all  the  dastardly  deeds  as  a  disciple. However  Warner  Bros  wouldn't  countenance  it  without  Lee  so  he  replaces  Bates  halfway  through  and  has  to  behave   untypically  to  fit  the  script.  It's  alright  but  no  better  than  that. Geoffrey  Keen  and  Peter  Sallis  also  appear.

Linda  Hayden (  as Alice  Hargood )

Sex :  Nice  cleavage

Death : Survives

This  is  one  of  Linda's  better  roles.

Isla  Blair  ( as  Lucy  Paxton )

Sex : Some  cleavage

Death :  From  blood  loss  initially  then  destroyed  by  Dracula  for  being  too  clingy

This  was  a  rather  more  substantial  part  for  Isla  whose  career  was  on  the  rise.

Madeline  Smith  ( as  Dolly )

Sex : Dolly  is  a  prostitute

Death : Survives

Madeline  would  be  my  pick  of  all  the  Hammer  girls. This  was  her  first  picture  for  the  company. Madeline  began  acting  in  the  late  sixties  and  was a  popular  glamour  girl  throughout  the  seventies ; I  first  caught  sight  of  her  on  Blankety  Blank. She  originally  retired  in  the  mid-eighties  after  her  stint  on  popular  science  show  Eureka  but made  a  surprise  comeback  in  Doctors  a  few  years  ago.

June  Palmer  ( as  Bordello  Girl )

Sex :  She  is  a  prostitute

Death : Survives

June  was  a  popular  glamour  model  but  only  a  bit  part  actress. She  died  in  2004  aged  63.

Lai  Ling  ( as  Chinese  girl )

Sex : She  is  a  prostitute

Death : Survives

This  was  one  of  only  three  film  appearances  for  Lai.

289 Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly ( 1970 )

This   shocker,  directed  by  Hammer's  Freddie  Francis  was  the  equivalent  of  a  video  nasty  in  the  day. If  you  can  survive  the first  twenty  minutes , the  camp  dialogue  stops grating  and  the ingenious  unwinding  of   the  plot  begins to  enthral.

The  film  concerns  the  titular  four  psychopaths - who  may  not  actually  be  related  at  all  -who  live  in  an  isolated  mansion  and  live  out  a  macabre  fantasy. Girly  uses  her  feminine  charms  to  bring  down  and  outs  to  the  house  where  they  are  infantilised  and  humiliated  and  then  murdered  when  they  protest. Things  change  when  Girly  and  Sonny  ( Howard  Trevor )  bring  home   a  male  escort  as  "Friend  in  2"  who  uses  his  "talents"  to  outwit  them  all. Ex-Move  singer  Carl  Wayne  has  a  small  role  as  one  of  his  luckless  predecessors.

Vanessa  Howard ( as  Girly )

Sex :  Girly  has  an  orgasm when  Friend  in  2  goes  down  on  her  then  loses  her virginity  with  him  ( offscreen )

Death : Survives

The  poor  reception  given  to  this  film  was  one  of  the  reasons  behind  Vanessa's  decision  to  retire.

Imogen  Hassall  ( as  Girlfriend )

Sex : She  picks  Friend in  2  up   for  sex

Death : Breaks  her neck  when  Sonny  pushes  her  off  the  top  of  a  slide

This  wasn't  much  of  a  part  for  Imogen.

288 Incense for the Damned ( 1970 )

This  film  goes  by  four  different  titles  and  that's  not  too  surprising  since  it  doesn't  seem  to  know  whether  it's  a  vampire  film, soft  porn , academic  satire  or  just  an  excuse  for  actors  and  crew  to  jet  off  to  Greece. Even  having  a  clumsy  overarching  narration  doesn't  clear  up  the  confusion.

Richard  Fountain  ( Patrick  Mower )  is  a  brilliant  young  don  stifled  by  the  Provost  ( Peter  Cushing )  who's  grooming  him  as  successor  and  son-in-law  . He  goes  to  Greece  looking  for  some  relief  and  to  ,ahem,  be  able  to  get  it  up. As  he's  the  son  of  the  Foreign  Secretary  Tony  Seymour  ( Alexander  Davion ) some  sort  of  undefined  troubleshooter  is  engaged  to  bring  him  home  after  falling  in  with  the  wrong  crowd. After  that  it's  hard  to  make  sense  of what's  going  on.

Madeline  Hinde  ( as  Penelope  )

Sex :  No- her  fiance  is  impotent

Death :  Richard   tears  her  throat  out

Madeline  didn't  make  many  films  but  was  a  reasonably  successful  TV  actress  in  the  seventies. She  retired  at  the  beginning  of  the  eighties  to  raise  a  family. She  is  now  68.

Imogen  Hassall  ( as  Chryseis )

Sex :  Chryseis  leads  Richard  to  an  orgy

Death : Falls  from  a  stone  staircase

Imogen  appeared  regularly  on  screen  as  a  glamour  girl  with  three  separate  appearances  in  The  Saint  for  instance.  She  was  much  less  busy  in  the  seventies  when  her  second   marriage  failed. She  committed  suicide  by  taking  sleeping  pills  in  1980  aged  38.

287 House of Dark Shadows ( 1970 )

This  vampire  film   was  a  spin-off  from  a  popular  TV  series.  Jonathan  Frid  plays  the  civilised  vampire  Barnabas  Collins  who  spots  a  lookalike  for  his  intended  eighteenth  century bride  working  for   his   distant  ( more  than  they  realise )  rich   relatives  in  America.  Dr  Hoffman  ( Grayson  Hall )  thinks  she  can  cure  him  but  her  own  jealousy  betrays  her. This  has  some  good  ideas  but  it's  hard  to  care  much  about  the  victims  from  such  an   over-privileged  set.

Kathryn  Leigh  Scott  ( as  Maggie )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Kathryn  was  originally  Marlene  Kringstad  from  Minnesota. She  is  most  associated  with  the  Dark  Shadows  series  but  has had  a  long  career  on  American  TV. In  1986  she  moved  into  publishing  with  Pomegranate  Press  which  still  flourishes  as  does  her  acting  career. She  is  now  74.

Nancy  Barrett  ( as  Carolyn  Stoddard )

Sex : No

Death :  Initially  from  a  fatal  bite  then  she  is  staked  as  a  vampire

Nancy  was  a  former  Broadway  performer  who  rose  to  fame  in  the  Dark  Shadows  series. She  also  had  good  roles  in  The  Doctors  and  Ryan's  Hope. She  initially  retired  in  the  mid-seventies  but  returned  to  performing  in  the  nineties  with  a  one-woman  cabaret  show  linked  to  Dark  Shadows. She  is  now  75.

Lisa  Richards  ( as  Daphne  Budd )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Lisa  was  another  Dark  Shadows  regular . She  remains  a  working  actress  at  76.

286 The Horror of Frankenstein ( 1970 )

Peter  Cushing  got  the  boot  and  the  franchise  got  a  re-boot  with  Ralph  Bates  as  the  young  baron  taking  the  story  back  to  the  start  with  an  added  dash  of  black  humour. Its  good  fun  and  probably  what  the  series  needed. Bodybuilder  Dave  Prowse  plays  the  silent  monster

Kate  O' Mara  ( as  Alys )

Sex : Alys  services  both  Victor  and  his  father

Death :  Killed  by  the  creature  ( offscreen )

Kate's  formidable  mammaries  were  never  more  on  display  than  here

Veronica  Carlson ( as  Elisabeth  Heiss )

Sex :  Great  cleavage

Death :  Survives

Despite  her  objections  to  the  rape  scene  in  the  last  one, Veronica  was  happy  to   sign  up  for  this  film.

Glenys  O' Brien  ( as  Maggie )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Glenys  was  an  Australian  actress  married  to comedian  Ernie  Sigley  who  had  his  own  show  in  the  mid  seventies. She  retired  from  acting  at  the  end  of  the  seventies.

Carol  Jeayes ( as  Woodman's  daughter)

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  was  the  second  of  only  two  films  Carol  made. The  woodsman  was  played  by  her  real-life  father  Hal  Jeayes.

285 The Dunwich Horror (1970 )

If   AIP  were  trying  to  recreate  Witchfinder-General  in  England, Rosemary's Baby  was   the  bigger  influence  in  America  and  The  Dunwich  Horror  falls  into  that  category  although  it  was  based  on  an  H  P  Lovecraft  story. It  has  its  moments  but  it's  seriously  impaired  by  the  miscasting  of  faded  Hollywood  starlet  Sandra  Dee  as  a  virginal  student.

Dee  plays  Nancy  Wagner,  a  student  of   Dr  Armitage  ( Ed  Begley )  who  surprisingly  entrusts  her  with  a  very  rare  and  valuable  book  the  Necronomicon  to  display  in  the  college  library. There  she  meets  a  rather  nerdy  young  man  Wilbur  Whateley  (  Dean  Stockwell )  who  hypnotises  her  into  letting  him  read  it. When  Armitage  returns , Wilbur  reveals  himself  as  the  great  grandson  of  a  man  from  Dunwich, Massachusetts  who  was  hanged  by  the  villagers  for  practising  black  magic. He  himself  is  shunned  in  the  village  but  Nancy  is  drawn  into  his world.

Sandra  Dee  ( as  Nancy  Wagner )

Sex : Nancy  is  impregnated  by  Wilbur  in  a  scene  cribbed  from  Rosemary's  Baby  but  you  don't  see  anything.

Death : Survives

Sandra  was  only  28  when  she  made  the  film  but  her  career  had  declined  markedly  since  the  early  sixties  and  her  star  marriage  to  Bobby  Darin  had  ended  in  divorce. She  wears  all  black  for  most  of  the  film  and  the  film-makers  seem  to  have  taken  great  care  to  disguise  her  figure. She  struggled  with  anorexia  most  of  her  life  and  made  few  pictures  after  this  one. She  died  of  kidney  disease  in  2005  aged  62.

Donna  Bacalla  ( as  Elizabeth  Hamilton )

Sex : Elizabeth's  clothes  are  shredded  when  she's  attacked  by  the  monster  with  brief  flashes  of  what  may  be  her  breasts  ( or  those  of  a  body  double ).

Death :  Mutilated  by  the  monster

Donna  was  mainly  a  TV  actress  who  disappeared  at  the  end  of  the  seventies   but  then  made  a  brief  comeback  at  the  start  of  the  nineties. She  is  now  72.

Talia  Shire  ( as  Cora )

Sex : No

Death : Mutilated  by  the  monster

Talia   is  the  sister  of  Francis  Ford  Coppola, best  known  for  her  roles  in  the  Godfather  films  and  Rocky.  Her  film  career  is  still  going  strong  at  the  age of 71.

Barboura  Morris  ( as  Mrs  Paine )

Sex : No

Death : Mutilated  by  the  monster

This  was  Barbara's  peultimate  picture  and  her  last  horror film.

284 Cry of the Banshee ( 1970 )

AIP  seem  to  have  been  attempting  to  mash  up  Witchfinder-General  and  The  Masque  of  the  Red  Death  with  this  film  which  doesn't  match  up  to  either  one   with  a  poor  script  and  a  careless,  hammy  performance  from  Vincent  Price. The  scenes  of  cruelty  and  violence  and  a  high  nipple  count  don't  compensate  for  its  failure  to  engage.

Price  is  Edward  Whitman, a  cruel  tyrannical  lord  in  Elizabethan  England  who  pursues  suspected  witches  for  his  own  sadistic  pleasure  rather  than  any  idea  of  justice.  His  actions  bring  a  curse  on  his  family   from   genuine  witch  Oona  (  Elisabeth  Bergner)  using  foundling  Roderick  ( Patrick  Mower )  as  her  instrument  of  vengeance.

Essy  Persson ( as  Lady  Patricia  Whitman )

Sex : Patricia  is  raped  by  her  stepson  Sean

Death : Patricia  is  ripped  apart  by  Roderick

Essy  was  a  Swedish  actress  who  made  her  name  in  erotic  films. She  returned  to  Sweden  after  this  and  gradually  got  fed  up  of  her  image. She  studied  fine  arts  at  college in  the  early  eighties  and  gave  up  acting  altogether  after  1987. She  is  now  76.

Hilary  Dwyer  ( as  Maureen  Whitman )

Sex :  Maureen  is  sleeping  with  Roderick

Death : Killed  by  Roderick  ( offscreen )

Hilary  starred  again  with  Price  in  this. She  does  best  out  of  all  the  young  actresses  for  keeping  her  clothes  on.

Pamela  Farbrother  ( as  Margaret )

Sex :  Margaret   is  rendered  topless  by  her  whipping

Death :   Margaret  expires  after  being  roasted  over  a  fire

Pamela  ( who  later  preferred  to  be  called  Victoria  )  made  few  films  but  had  a  respectable  TV  career  in  the  seventies  and  eighties  before  she married  Don  Warrington  and  started  a  family. She  made  a  surprise  comeback  in  a  recent  episode  of  Casualty.

Quin O'Hara  ( as  Maggie )

Sex : Maggie  is  partially  stripped  as  part  of  her  interrogation

Death : Uncertain  but  probably  killed  by  Sean

Quin  was  really  Alice  Jones  from  Edinburgh. She  had  been  active  throughout  the  sixties . She  moved  to  America  in  the  early  seventies  and  appeared  in  many  US  TV  series  including  a  recurring  role  in  Dallas  ( though  I'm  struggling  to  recall  her  character ). She  died  earlier  this  year  aged  76.

Jane  Deady  ( as  naked  girl )

Sex :  She  takes  part  in  a  ceremony  lying  nude

Death : Speared  trying  to  escape  an  ambush

This  is  Jane's  only  film  role

Jan  Rossini  ( as  Bess )

Sex : Bess's  breasts  are bared  by  Sean  and  his  mates

Death : Bess  is  executed  by  being  burned  alive  on  the  flimsiest  pretext

Jan  was  a  bit  part  actress  last  seen  on  The  Morecambe  and  Wise  Show  in  1973.

Sally  Geeson  ( as  Sarah )

Sex :  Sarah  is  prepared  for  rape

Death : Shot  after  stabbing  Edward

This  was   Sally's  last  horror  picture.

283 Count Yorga , Vampire ( 1970 )

With  the  Count  Yorga  films, AIP   beat  Hammer  to  the  punch  in  setting  a  vampire  story  in  the  present  day. Yorga  as  played  by  Robert  Quarry  is  an  obvious  substitute  for  Lee  as  Dracula. The  film  is  a  bit  talky  at  first  but  once  it  gets  going  it's  very  good. Not  one  for  cat  lovers  though !

Yorga  is  a  Bulgarian  immigrant  who  offers  to  conduct  a  seance  for  Donna, the  daughter  of  his  recently  deceased  lover. When  she  becomes  hysterical  he  talks  her  down and  is  given  a  ride  home  by  two  of  her  friends. Returning  from  his  home  they  are  mysteriously  bogged  down  in  mud  then  he  attacks  them. The  girl's  doctor, Jim  Hayes  ( Roger  Perry )  starts  to  suspect  the  truth  about  him.

Donna  Anders  ( as  Donna )

Sex :  Donna  wears  a  see-through  night-dress

Death : From  blood  loss  after  a  vampire  bite

Donna  was  only  active  in  a  handful  of  films  around  the  beginning  of  the  seventies. She  is  now  80.

Judy  Lang  ( as  Erica )

Sex :  Has  sex  with  boyfriend  Paul  before  Yorga  attacks  them

Death : From  blood  loss  after  a  vampire  bite

Judy  was  best  known  for  a  regular  role  in  Dr  Kildare  in  the  sixties. This  was  her  last  film  before  she  retired  to  raise  a  family. She  is  now  76.

Sybil  Scotford  ( as  Judy )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  was  Sybil's  first  film  but  she  never  really  progressed  beyond  bit  parts  and  disappeared  at  the  end  of  the  seventies.

Julie  Conners ( as  Cleo )

Sex : Cleo  is  sleeping  with  Jim  and  there's  a  hint  of  nipple  when  she's  talking  to  him

Death : Survives

Julie  seems  to  have  called  herself  something  different  in  each  film  in  a  brief  career  in  exploitation  pictures.

Marsha  Jordan  ( as  Donna's  mother )

Sex : No

Death : Staked  as  a  vampire

Marsha  was  a  well  known  soft  porn  actress  with  many  film  credits  in  that  genre. She  retired  in  the  mid-seventies  when  the  market  went  harder  and  raised  a  family.

Deborah  Darnell  ( as  Vampire  Woman )

Sex : Big  cleavage

Death : Survives  as  a  vampire

This  was  one  of  only  two  film  appearances  by  Deborah.

Erica  Macready  ( as  Babette )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  is  Erica's  only  film  appearance  and  I  suspect  she  was  the  sister  of  Michael  Macready,  one  of  the  male  stars, doing  a  walk-on  part.
