279 Scream and Scream Again ( 1969 )
This offering from Tigon is more of a science fiction film than horror and rather divides opinion. Some think it's a classic, others a bit of a mess. I'm in the latter camp frankly; it's ambitious in starting out with three apparently unconnected story threads but the pace is wildly uneven spending 15 minutes on a police chase and then rushing the not very illuminating exposition at the end. Some good performances but it doesn't really repay the attention it demands.
A jogger finds his limbs are disappearing in a hospital. A ruthless Communist apparatchik Konrad ( Marshall Jones ) starts killing his superiors ( including Peter Cushing in a very minor role ). A police detective ( Alfred Marks ), tracking a serial killer, follows a lead to a strange scientist (Vincent Price ). And Christopher Lee pops up occasionally as a civil servant who seems to know what's going on.
Judy Huxtable ( as Sylvia )
Sex : It's implied that Sylvia is raped in the attack
Death : Savaged by Keith the killer
In a film bereft of any decent female roles Judy is top billed girl but she's only in it for about 10 minutes.
Uta Levka ( as Jane )
Sex : No
Death : Dissolved in a trough of acid
Uta is completely mute in this one.
Judy Bloom ( as Helen Bradford )
Sex : Helen is a WPC set up as a honey trap for the killer
Death : Survives
Born in Leeds as Judith Churnin , Judi was more of a TV actress active until 1973 . She is now 75.
Yutte Stensgaard ( as Erika )
Sex : No
Death : Uncertain but likely killed by Konrad
Yutte was a Danish model who came to the UK in the late sixties to further her career. With work drying up by the mid-seventies she emigrated to the US and ended up selling air time for a Christian radio station in Oregon. She is now 71.
Rosalind Elliott ( as Valerie )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Rosalind made few films but was a busy TV actress up to the beginning of the nineties.
Olga Linden ( as Eileen Stevens )
Sex : Eileen has been raped by Keith
Death : Her jugular vein has been torn out
Olga was a bit part actress active at the turn of the seventies.
