 After  two  unsatisfacory  adaptations  of  his  work, Clive  Barker decided  to  direct  one  himself  and  it  paid  off  with   commercial  success  and  a  franchise. Hedonist  Frank  Cotton has  a  joyride  to  Hell  and  back when  he  messes  with an   occult  puzzle  box. Finding  a  way  back  to  Earth, he  terrorises  his  brother's  family  but  the  demonic  Cenobites  are  on  his  tail. The modest  budget stretches  to  some  very  grisly  special  effects and  good  acting  helps  bring  his  dark  tale to life.

Ashley  hails  from  the  USA  where  she  had  made  a  handful  of  TV  appearances  before  obtaining  this   career-defining  role. She  has  appeared  in  three  of  the  sequels  but  has  also worked  extensively  outside  the  franchise  including  voice  roles.

Clare Higgins ( as Julia )

Clare  was  born  in  Bradford  and  first  emerged on  TV at  the  beginning  of  the  eighties. This  was  only  her  second  film  role.  Julia  became  her  signature  role  although  she  doesn't  like  horror  films  and  pulled out  of  the  franchise  after  the  second  film.  Though  still  to  be  found  n  film, she  is  more  active  on  TV  and  the  stage  where  she  has  won three  Olivier  Awards. She  has  also  qualified  as  a  massage  therapist  and  psychotherapist.

Sharon Bower ( as Nurse )

Sharon  had  a  long  career  as  a  bit  part  actress on  film  and  TV , often  playing  medical  personnel or someone's  wife. She  eventually  became a  drama  teacher.
