81 The Ape Man ( 1943 )

This   is  a  poor  effort.

Bela  Lugosi  stars  as   Dr  Brewster , a  mad  scientist  with  a  semi-tame  gorilla  who  has  transformed  himself  into  a  half-ape  and  now  seeks  a  cure  by  murdering  people  for  their  spinal  fluid. A  couple  of  reporters  are  on  his  case. What  makes  this  particularly  irritating  is  an  unexplained  comic  character  popping  up  every  now  and  then  to  subvert  the  film.

Louise  took  this  part  after  another  actress  dropped  out. She  was  a  popular  B-movie  actress  in  the forties  and  early  fifties  and  had  an  uncredited  role  in  Citizen  Kane. She  retired  in  1956  and  started  a  successful  antiques  business  with  her  third  husband. She  died  in  2013  aged  100.
