This is another early Hammer effort with Peter Cushing making only his second appearance for them after The Curse of Frankenstein . It's still in black and white which is probably an advantage as the Himalayas had to be re-created in the studio. It's a bit low on shocks but a thoughtful script from Nigel Kneale ( adapting his teleplay The Creature in which Cushing played the same role ) and good performances make it worth watching.
Cushing plays Dr Rollason who is ostensibly on a botanical expedition in Nepal with his wife and assistant. However he has disguised his real intention which is to join a Yeti-hunting expedition led by American adventurer Tom Friend ( top-billed Forrest Tucker ). Unlike his companions Rollason comes to realise that their quarry might be an intelligent species.
Maureen Connell ( as Helen Rollason )
Sex : She's not the prettiest girl we've seen but has a great rack.
Death : Survives
Maureen was born in Nairobi and had a reasonable career in the fifties. She married director John Guillermin ( The Towering Inferno, Death on the Nile ) and retired to raise a family in the early sixties although she appeared in his film Skyjacked in 1972. She is now 85.
