Roman  Polanski's  first  excursion  into  horror  pictures  is  still  regarded  as  a  classic, breaking  new  ground  in  displaying  the  links  between  horror  and  sex.

Carol  Ledoux is  a  frigid  young  Belgian  woman  who  becomes  increasingly  agitated  by  the  sexual  noises  when  her  sister  Helen  entertains  her  boyfriend  Michael. When  Helen  and  Michael  go  away  however  her  mental  disintegration  accelerates  with  strange  visions  and  either  fantasies  or  memories  of  rape. When  gentlemen  come  calling  at  the  apartment  there  is  trouble  .

The  Oldham-born  actress  went  on  to  be  a  stalwart  character  actress  best  known  as  a  souur-faced  warder  in  Bad  Girls. She  is  now  75  and  was  last  seen  in  Doctors  a  couple  of  years  ago.
