Bert Gordon directed his now-teenage daughter Susan in this family melodrama which suffers from a lack of likeable characters but is entertaining enough.
Susan plays Susan Shelley a young heiress returning home from a convent only partially recovered from the trauma of witnessing her mother Jessica's ( Zsa Zsa Gabor ) death in a house fire. Susan suffers from flashbacks and is under threat from her impecunious father ( Don Ameche ) disfigured cousin Anthony ( Maxwell Read ) and that old staple the mercenary governess - turned - stepmother Francine.
Martha Hyer ( as Francine )
Sex : Francine sleeps with Anthony to further her schemes. Amazing cleavage
Death : Throttled by her husband
Martha was a popular actress of the fifties, picking up an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress for Some Came Running in 1958. This one was toward the end of her film career. She retired in 1974 when she turned 50. She died in 2014 aged 89.
Susan Gordon ( as Susan Shelley )
Sex : There are heavy hints of incest between Susan and her father towards the end
Death : Survives
This was Susan's last film.
