This Anglo-Italian venture about a reincarnated witch would pack a fair punch if there was a decent print available but it's close to unwatchable as it is. The film is partly meant as a satire on communism but most of the jokes fall flat.
Ian Ogily ( in his film debut ) plays an arrogant newly-wed, Philip , visiting Transylvania with his wife and being directed to a rundown hotel . Both are skeptical of their fellow guest Van Helsing's ( John Karlsen ) warnings of a supernatural threat , assuming he's just conning them out of a drink. After a fracas with the lecherous hotelier Groper ( Mel Welles ) their car is tampered with and they swerve into a lake. Both apparently survive but it's not his wife that comes up with him.
Barbara Steele ( as Veronica )
Sex : Veronica starts making love with Philip in the most graphic scene we've covered to date
Death : Survives
Barbara was a big star in Italy at this point, much better known than she was in Britain
Lucretia Love ( as Groper's neice )
Sex : Groper attempts to rape her but she fights him off in a scene that has very little relevance to the rest of the picture.
Death : Survives
Lucretia was a well-known actress in Italian horror in the sixties and seventies but she retird around 1980.
