256 It ! ( 1967 )
This is the work of the same director as The Frozen Dead but is much better. Roddy MacDowall is a meek Norman Bates type character, Arthur Pimm - a point hammered home by keeping his mother's corpse around his house - who gets pushed around by his bosses as assistant curator of a museum and rejected by the boss's buxom daughter. When he finds the means to bring a sinister stone golem to life, things begin to change in his favour. This is a well made supernatural thriller; my only caveat is that MacDowall is in nearly every scene and his campery gets a bit wearing after a while.
Jill Haworth ( as Ellen Grove )
Sex : Pimm has a vision of a near-naked and available Ellen
Death : Survives
Jill was from Hove. She attended stage school and got her big break at 15 when Otto Preminger cast her in Exodus. She then signed up to him for 5 years which restricted her roles. She had an on/off relationship with the bisexual Sal Mineo, a co-star in Exodus. In 1966 she became the first Sally Bowles in Cabaret on Broadway. After failing to get the role in the film, her star dimmed considerably and she returned to England and horror films though she later went back to New York. She died there in 2011 aged 65.
