The combination of Joe Dante and John Sayles came up trumps again with this werewolf movie. The proliferation of dud sequels made by others shouldn't detract from the merits of the original. Karyn Beatty. a TV presenter, goes undercover to catch a serial killer and after a near-fatal encounter goes to a remote costal camp, The Colony, at the suggestion of TV doctor Waggoner ( Patrick McNee ), to recuperate. The other residents are not what they seem. Great special effects and satirical humour compensate for a low kill count.
Dee Wallace ( as Karyn )
Sex : Karen's experiences tur her frigid
Death : Shot with a silver bullet after turning into a werewolf
This was Dee's signature role.
Belinda Balaski ( as Heather )
Sex : Heather is sleeping with a colleague
Death : Has her throat torn out by a werewolf
This was a much meatier role for Belinda with almost as much screen tme as Dee. It was her last horror film for many years.
Elisabeth Brooks ( as Marsha )
Sex : Marsha has animal sex with Karyn's husband
Death : Survives
Elisabeth was from Toronto and had a solid American TV resume behind her. This was her first film and brought her some notoriety. Her career afterwards was patchy due to ill health and theatre projects. Her last screen appearance was in 1991 and she died of cancer six years later aged 46.
Marge Impert ( as Donna )
Sex : No
Death : Unclear - may have perished in a barn fire but as Marsha survived that unscathed so might Donna
Margie had a solid TV career going back to 1969. THis was the first of just two films she made. She disappears after 1986.
