458 The Burning (1981)

 This  film  is  so  indebted  to  Friday  the  13th  you  could  intercut   most  of  its  scenes  with  an  entry  in  the  franchise  and  no  one  would  spot  the  join.  A  group of  lads  at  a  summer  camp  play  a  prank  on  the  cantankerous  caretaker Cropsey whih  ends  up  setting  fire  to  him. Five  years  later, he  leaves  hospital  hideously  deformed  and  takes  revenge  on   a  bunch of  campers  with  a pair  of  garden  shears. It's  pretty  implausible- Cropsey  displays  remarkable  strength  and  agility  for  a  middle aged  drunk  who's  been  severely  burned  - but  entertaining. The  knowledge  that  Harvey  Weinstein  produced  it  and  co-wrote  the  script  gives  it  an  extra  frisson.

Leah Ayres ( as Michelle )

Leah  had  a  part  in  All  That  Jazz  and  a  couple of  TV  appearances  before  this.  She  worked  mostly  in  TV  afterwards including  a  two  year  run  in  the  soap  The  Edge  Of  Night. She  retired  in  1998  and  became  a  teacher  and  produer  of  learning  materials.

Carrick  Glenn ( as  Sally )

Sex : Sally  has  sex  with the  obnoxious Glazer  but  he  prematurely  ejaculates

Death : Stabbed  with  garden  shears

 Carrick  was  the  daughter  of  a  noted  urologist. She  had  a  run  in  daytime  soap  THe  Doctors  but  this  was  her  first  film  role. She  quit  acting  in  1982  and  was  last  recorded  living in  Durham NC  with  her  second  husband, a  hand  surgeon.

Carolyn  Houlihan ( as  Karen )

Sex : Karen strips  nude  for  a  skinnydip  but backs  off  from  sex  with  Ed

Death : Karen's  throat  is  cut  with shears

Carolyn  was  Miss  Ohio  in  1979  and  this  was  her  first  film  role  and  she  was  said  to  be  very uncomfortable  with  the  nudity. After  one  more  film  she dropped  out  of  acring  altogether.

Shelley Bruce ( as Tiger )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  was  Shelley's  only film  role  but  she  played  Annie  on  Broadway  and  is  known  to  be  a  cancer  survivor.

Sarah Chodoff ( as  Barbara )

Sex : No

Death : Stabbed  in  the  abdomen with  shears ( or  possibly  drowned if  wound not  fatal )

This  was  Sarah's  only  film  role.

Bonnie  Deroski  ( as Marnie )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

Bonnie  was  a  bit  part  actress  whose  career  was over  by  1986. She  is  now  a  talent  agent.

Holly  Hunter  (as  Sophie )

Sex : No

This  was  the  start  of  a  glittering  career  for  Holly  who  made  her  real  breakthrough  in 1987  with  Raising  Arizona. Five  years  later  she  was  an  Oscar  winner for  The  Piano. In  recent  years  she's  been  seen  more  on  TV including  the  crime  drama  Saving  Grace  which  she  produced.

Kevi  Kendall ( as Diane )

Sex : No

Death : Diane's head  is  sliced  open  with  shears

Kevi  was  a  bit  part  actress  whose  career  had  fizzled  out  by  1985.

Ame  Segull ( as  Rhoda )

Sex : No

Death : Survives

This  was  Ame's  only  acting  role  but  she  did  work  in  casting  for  three  other  films  in  the  eighties.
