This Anglo-American film was wrtitten by Hammer veteran Jimmy Sangster and transplants a couple of American stars to an English country house where a bunch of British character actors await them. The story unwinds like a Hammer version of The Omen with various characters meeting inexplicable and unpleasant ends and it's OK. It also scores an extra point for the scene where Roger Daltrey has his throat cut.
Katharine Ross (as Maggie )
Sex : Maggie sleeps with her boyfriend
Death : Survives
Katharine became a huge star in the late sixties with The Graduate and Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid but her career was beginning to stall. On the plus side she began dating her co-star here , Sam Elliott , who in due course became her fifth husband. In the eighties she tarnished her reputation by taking a role in dismal Dynasty spin-off The Colbys. In the nineties she went into semi-retirement and has chosen her roles more carefully.
Marianne Broome ( as .Maria )
Sex : No
Death : Drowns when trapped under water by occult forces
Marianne was a swimmer and model who represented Malaysia in the Montreal Olympics. THis was the final and most substantial of her four screen appearances.
