John Huston must have loved being in a terrible horror film so much. he decided to direct one himself . Unlike The Visitor which was entertaining in patches , Phobia is crushingly dull with a plot so contrived and improbable that characters regularly have to explain what's going on to each other. An ice hockey-playing psychiatrist is treating a group of criminals who have transferred to his hospital to confront phobias which have little to do with their crimes. Who's greenlighted this venture ? - that's just the first baffling question raised. Why do characters keep appearing in places where they have no business to be ? - that's another. The biggest problem of all is the supposed star . Any hopes Paul Michael Glaser was entertaining of transferring his TV fame to the big screen were holed below the waterline by his expressionless mumbling performance here, so painfully out of his depth you blush for him.
