This was John Carpenter's first film post-Halloween and features some of the same cast. It has nothing to do with the James Herbert novel of the same name.
In Northern California , a small coastal town has been established using gold plundered from a deliberately wrecked ship. It is about to celebrate its centennial but a creeping mist starts appearing from which the dead sailors emerge looking for revenge. A local disc jockey broadcasting from the lighthouse is obviously vulnerable.
It's well acted and atmospheric but not particularly scary.
Adrienne Barbeau ( as Stevie )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
Adrienne was Mrs Carpenter at the time of filming, having worked with him on the superior TV movie Someone's Watching Me. She was a go-go dancer before breaking into TV in 1972. Her first two film roles were Carpenter projects but she was making her own way in film even before they divorced in 1984. At 78 her career shows no signs of slowing down.
Jamie Lee Curtis ( as Elisabeth )
Sex : Elisabeth sleeps with the male lead
Death : Survives
Carpenter wrote Jamie into the film as she was struggling to get other roles post-Halloween. Her mother Janet Leigh was also in the film although their interaction is limited.
Nancy Loomis ( as Sandy )
Sex : No
Death : Survives
This was Nancy's third film in a row for Carpenter.
