435 Don't Answer The Phone ( 1980)

 This  low  budget  shocker  is  pretty  nasty  but  surprisingly  well-acted. and  the  contrast  between  the  extreme  misogyny  of  the  kills  and  the  good-humoured  banter between  the  two  cops  pursuing  him  is quite  jarring.

We're  introduced to  the  killer  Kirk  Smith  ( Nicholas Worth ) straight  away, a  hulking  brute  who  breaks  into  women's  homes, strangles  them , then  rapes  the  corpse. The film  never  really  settles on  his  motivation; it seems  to  change with  each  murder. He  also  calls  a  local  radio  counsellor who  gradually  becomes  more  involved  in  the  case.

Pamela Bryant ( as Sue Ellen )

Pamela  was  a  former  Playboy  model  whose  looks  took  her  into  film  and  TV   between 1978  and  1995. She  later  became  a  painter  specialising  in  faux  finish. She  died  of  an  asthma  attack in 2010.

Dale Kalberg ( as Nurse )

Dale had  a  brief  careeer  as  a  bit  part  actress in  the  late  seventies  with  this  being  her  last  film. She  died  in  2004.

Susanne Severeid ( as Hooker )

Susanne  had  a  successful  modelling  career before  going  into  film  and  TV. She  had  a  long  stint  in  a  European  soap  in  1993  then  retired  shortly  afterwards.

Paula Warner ( as Carol )

Paula  was  a  bit  part  acress  between  1969 and 1981.

Gail Jensen ( as Joyce )

Gail  was  a singer  as  well  as an  actress  and  had  a  couple  of  TV  credits before  this. She  married David  Carridine  and  was  credited  as  associate  prodcer on  a  handful  of  his  films. She died in 2010.

Joyce Ann Jodan ( as room-mate )
