This was director John Sayles second creature feature after Piranha and there's a similar sense of humour in the script enlivening what would otherwise be a fairly routine monster on the loose movie. A baby alligator is flushed down the toilet and grows to a gigantic size feeding on mutant dog carcasses. Robert Forster plays the morose cop David Madison charged with hunting it down aided by a herpetologist who just happens to be the little girl who bought the critter in the first place, Henry Silva is awful as the game hunter who takes charge and comes a cropper.
