John Frankenheimer was a great director but he should have stayed away from horror. Fabulous cinematography and a worthy ecological message don't compensate for a very ordinary monster movie that's at least twice as long as it needs to be, The charmless Robert Foxworth plays a public health doctor who goes north to investigate a conflict between a huge paper-making operation and local Native Americans led by a horribly miscast Armand Assante and notices strange disturbances to the local wildlife. Unless I missed something subtle, there's no prophecy involved in the story from start to finish.
